Ontario's First Look: The 2027 Kia EV3 Electric SUV Arrives Late 2026

Kia has unveiled the all-new 2027 EV3 - a subcompact electric SUV designed to make electric driving more accessible and practical for Ontario drivers. This is Kia's third dedicated EV to arrive in Canada this year, following the EV4 and EV5, targeting one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments. The EV3 brings the advanced technology and premium features of the award-winning EV9 into a compact, city-friendly package.

Ontario's pairing of urban commuting, highway corridors, and seasonal weather demands a versatile vehicle. The EV3 delivers with up to 482 km of rated range, fast charging in about 31 minutes, and available all-wheel drive for year-round confidence. It arrives at Canadian dealerships in late Q3 2026.

What Makes the EV3 Stand Out

Built on Kia's dedicated 400V E-GMP electric platform, the EV3 offers two battery options: a 58.3 kWh battery in the Light trim delivering 354 km of range with front-wheel drive, and an 81.4 kWh long-range battery in Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT trims pushing range to 482 km. AWD is available on Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited trims, and comes standard on the GT.

Charging speed is strong. The 58.3 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes using DC fast charging, while the 81.4 kWh battery takes 31 minutes. The EV3 features a native NACS charging port, providing access to Tesla's Supercharger network plus other public charging stations.

The EV3 introduces Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 system, allowing one-pedal driving with complete stops using only the accelerator. This feature now works in reverse, and the i-Pedal Memory function remembers your last setting. Smart Regenerative Braking recaptures energy during deceleration to extend range.

Cargo Space and Interior Flexibility

The EV3 offers 740 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats - sufficient for groceries, sports equipment, or camping gear. Rear seats recline up to 40 degrees and fold 60/40 flat for larger items. A two-position luggage board provides underfloor storage, and the EV3 includes a 25-litre frunk. An optional Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically when it detects your Smart Key, with adjustable opening height and speed.

Inside, the EV3 features a clean layout with a two-spoke steering wheel (three-spoke on GT-Line and GT) and a panoramic display consisting of dual 12.3-inch screens plus a 5-inch climate display. The open centre console includes retractable cupholders and storage compartments. Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and multicolour mood lighting, with ventilated front seats available on higher trims.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability turns the EV3 into a mobile power source for laptops, power tools, camping equipment, or e-bikes - ideal for outdoor activities, job sites, or emergency backup power.

Technology and Connectivity

The EV3's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) pairs dual 12.3-inch displays with robust connectivity features enhanced through over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Available features include a 12-inch head-up display, eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and Surround View Monitor.

Kia's Digital Key 2.0 allows you to lock, unlock, and start the EV3 using a compatible smartphone, plus remotely control certain functions from anywhere.

Safety Systems

The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags, and a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Standard Forward Collision Avoidance applies automatic emergency braking to help avoid or reduce collision severity. The system includes FCA Junction Turning (FCA-JT), which monitors for oncoming vehicles during left turns with the turn signal active, and FCA Junction Crossing (FCA-JC), which watches for vehicles approaching from either side when driving through intersections.

Hands-On Detection (HOD) senses contact with the steering wheel and provides alerts if your hands are no longer detected. Other available ADAS features include:

  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Lane Following Assist
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist

Design and Styling

The EV3 follows Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, blending natural forms with industrial precision. The front features Kia's signature Star Map lighting with standard small cube LED projector headlamps. Vertical lighting elements emphasize the broad front, while horizontal elements underscore the latest Tiger Face interpretation, creating a bold, futuristic look aligned with the EV4, EV5, and EV9.

The side profile pairs short overhangs with a low, sloping roofline that appears to float rearward. Hidden rear door handles maintain a clean, modern appearance. Vertical taillights echo the front Star Map design. The EV3 rides on standard 17-inch or available 19-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. The GT trim features high-performance all-season tires and exclusive design elements.

Aerodynamics played a major role in design. Kia used lightweight body materials, aero wheels, a front bumper active air flap, and a full underbody cover to achieve a 0.26 Cd drag coefficient. The suspension uses MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link geometry at the rear, tuned for smooth, quiet riding.

Why the EV3 Matters for Ontario Drivers

The EV3 fills a gap in the electric vehicle market, offering subcompact SUV practicality - easy to park, easy to manoeuvre, affordable to run - with the range and charging speed needed for longer trips. Available all-wheel drive makes it viable for Ontario winters, and V2L capability adds utility most vehicles in this class lack.

The EV3 is part of Kia's broader push to make electric vehicles more accessible. It joins the EV4 compact sedan and EV5 family-sized SUV as the third dedicated EV arriving in Canada in 2026, covering the most popular vehicle segments and giving buyers options based on their needs.
