Kia is used to receiving J.D. Power Dependability and Initial Quality Study awards. This year was no different with Kia finishing fourth overall among all automakers in North America for the quality of its vehicles in the latest Initial Quality Study.
The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study aims to determine which brands and vehicles offer the most reliable and dependable vehicles over the first 90 days of ownership. This study is also telling of the expected overall long-term reliability of different brands and vehicles.
The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study surveyed over 80,000 consumers in 2022, asking them to answer 223 questions about their experience with a 2022 vehicle they have owned for three months. The goal is to determine which vehicles have the least problems and then average everything by putting the score over 100 vehicles. this way, everybody is on equal footing.
With just 156 problems per 100 vehicles, Kia finished fourth overall ahead of every other Japanese or Korean mainstream automaker. Kia also finished well ahead of the industry average of 180 problems per 100 vehicles.
