2021 was a difficult year, especially for the automotive industry which faced supply issues and production challenges, limiting inventory in dealerships. Still, that did not prevent Kia from having its best year ever, increasing sales by 9.3 per cent compared to 2020, and registering 79,198 units throughout the year. Kia also had its best month ever in June where it's set an all-time record for monthly sales.
It did not end there for 2021 for Kia, however as the brand took home multiple awards including two AJAC category wins for the Kia K5 sedan and the Kia Telluride while also winning 3 AutoTrader.ca awards. Kia was also named the number one mass-market brand in the J.D. Power 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study.
“Our success in 2021 can be attributed to our industry leading design, safety and technology, as well as our dedicated dealer network, who remained agile in servicing our customers throughout another pandemic year,” says Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Canada. “As we look forward to 2022, consumer demand remains exceptionally high, leaving us optimistic for the year ahead with new and exciting models like the highly anticipated Kia EV6, set to arrive in dealerships early next year.”
Kia’s record breaking year can be attributed to its new model lineup and its impressive value. The Kia Seltos, one of the most spacious and versatile vehicles in his class, was tops in model sales in 2021 with 14,436 units sold. The Kia Forte had 13,190 units sold, an impressive feat given that it is being redesigned this year. The Kia Sportage also had an exceptional year with 11,837 units sold. Kia also did very well with its electric vehicles, selling 4,720 units and seeing increases of 24%, 152%, and 21%, for the Kia Soul EV, Kia Niro EV, and Kia Niro PHEV respectively.
