The 2023 Kia Sportage

Drivers who love to ride in style in a compact SUV know that the Kia Sportage has more to offer than its rivals. Throughout the years, the Sportage has been a symbol of performance in a versatile package that won’t break the bank. Its base variants have always offered more for less, too. This year, the Sportage gets a whole new look and introduces three new innovative powertrains.

Let’s take a look at what this new 2023 Kia Sportage has to offer.

The 2023 Kia Sportage introduces new technologies

The new Sportage has never been as bold as it is now. It is bigger in size, but also gets a whole new audacious style that stands out on the road. It’s built on a whole new platform, enabling it to offer occupants more headroom and legroom, along with more cargo volume than ever before.

In the front, the driver and passenger benefit from an all-new available twin screen setup. A 12-inch centre touchscreen and a 12-inch instrument cluster equipped with the latest-generation TFT technology display everything you need to know about the vehicle, as well as a variety of infotainment possibilities.

The new 2023 Sportage also takes safety very seriously, with advanced safety and driver assistance features like the 360-degree Surround-View Monitor with 3D view, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance with Pedestrian, Cyclist Detection and many more.

The 2023 Kia Sportage goes hybrid

Under the hood of the 2023 Kia Sportage, the old 2.4-litre base engine has been replaced by a 2.5-litre unit mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 187 horsepower.

The Sportage HEV uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre Smartstream engine mated to a 44-kilowatt electric motor and a 1.49-kWh lithium-ion battery. This efficient powertrain has an output of 226 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, the Sportage PHEV offers 50 kilometres of full-electric range, letting you drive around without using a single drop of gas. Its powertrain is composed of a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine combined with a 66.9-kilowatt electric motor and a 13.8-kWh battery. The combined output is rated at 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

When connected to a Level-2 (240V) charger, it only takes two hours to fully charge the Sportage PHEV’s battery.
