The Kia K5 only joined the ranks last year, but it has already cemented itself as one of the most distinctive and well-equipped mid-size sedans you can buy today. That segment may be shrinking a little in the face of the crossover onslaught, but as long as cars like the K5 are around, there will always be a place for those who aren’t ready to…cross over.
From the LED DRLs that are shaped to recall an EKG monitor, to the fantastic wheel designs ranging from 16 to 19 inches, to bright colour options such as Pacific Blue and Passion Red, the K5 is a real looker. Add a spot-on stance that gives the air of a proper performance sedan, and you have what it takes to bring your mid-size sedan experience to the max.
The K5 doesn’t just look like a performance sedan, either – it has the tools to help it walk that walk, as well. Tools like two four-cylinder turbo engines: a 1.6-litre good for 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque comes as standard, and an optional 2.5-litre “lump” that puts out a whopping 290 hp and 311 lb-ft. On the latter, it all gets sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, while the smaller engine gets paired with AWD and eight-speed auto. You read that right: the K5 comes with AWD as standard, which is a rarity in anything other than the luxury sedan segment.
The standard feature list is impressive: standard heated front seats, standard heated steering wheel and tilting and telescoping steering wheel, to name a few. Options include premium synthetic seating surfaces, front sport bucket seats, heated rear seats, D-shaped sport steering wheel, cooled front seats, stainless steel pedals and more.
They don’t make many fun sedans like this, that come so well-equipped and with such an advanced powertrain. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
