What Makes the 2023 Kia Sportage so Efficient?

2023 Kia Sportage

The all-new 2023 Kia Sportage is now more powerful and more fuel-efficient than the outgoing version due to the numerous technologies it incorporates.

A new engine

The 2023 Kia Sportage is powered by a new engine that is modern, powerful and efficient. This 2.5L four-cylinder unit delivers 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, which is more than the standard engine in the previous generation of the Sportage. Despite this, the new engine is more efficient than the preceding one, enough to give the 2023 Sportage the lowest fuel consumption figures of any Sportage ever, at 7.4 L/100 km on the highway.

A choice of drive modes

In order to better adapt to any driver and any road conditions, the 2023 Kia Sportage is equipped with a drive mode selection feature that alters the parameters of the engine, the transmission, and the accelerator pedal. In Smart mode, the Sportage changes modes on its own depending on the situation, while always prioritizing fuel efficiency. This is achieved by having the transmission shift earlier and making the accelerator less responsive in normal driving since both measures make it easier to accelerate gently and adopt an eco-friendlier driving style.

The Stop & Go system

The 2023 Kia Sportage comes standard with the Stop & Go system which limits the unnecessary consumption of fuel while the vehicle is stopped at intersections or in heavy traffic. By turning off the engine whenever possible, this system also reduces the polluting emissions and stretches the service intervals by preventing the engine from running when it isn’t necessary. As soon as the driver releases the brake pedal, the engine comes back to life seamlessly and it is immediately ready to accelerate away. If you prefer to keep the engine running at all times for any reason, the system can be switched off with a button on the center console.
